# Volume Discounts

## What it does

Volume Discounts let you reward larger orders with **tiered "buy more, save more" pricing**. You define quantity tiers — for example, *5+ units = 10% off, 10+ units = 15% off* — and Shopify applies the matching discount automatically at checkout. A discount table is shown on the product page so buyers can see the savings before they add to cart.

Each tier can use a different kind of price break:

| Tier type | What the buyer gets | Example |
| ------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------- |
| **Percentage off**       | A percentage off the unit price for that quantity. | *10+ = 15% off*         |
| **Fixed amount off**     | A flat amount off each unit.                       | *10+ = $2 off per unit* |
| **Fixed price per item** | A set per-unit price, regardless of the original.  | *10+ = $8.00 each*      |

You can mix these across a single discount's tiers, target exactly which products and customers qualify, schedule when it runs, and style the on-page table to match your store.

## Before you start

* Install Flicky and enable the storefront app embed — see [Install and Enable Flicky On Your Store](/flicky-docs/user-guide/getting-started.md).

## Step‑by‑step

### 1. Open Volume Discounts

From the Dashboard or the left navigation, click **Volume Discounts**. You'll see the list of all your discounts, with a live preview of each one, its method, status, and schedule.

![Volume Discounts list](/files/QfXhWcIOPNGejG3Z4mtt)

Click **Create volume discount** (top right) to start a new one.

### 2. Fill in the basics

On the **Basic information** card, set:

* **Title** — an internal name for the discount (buyers don't see this).
* **Method** — *Automatic* (applied with no code) or *Discount code* (buyer enters a code at checkout).
* **Status** — *Active* to make it live, or *Inactive* to keep it as a draft.
* **Schedule** — optional start and end date/time (see [Scheduling](#scheduling) below).
* **Display position** — *Auto* (Flicky places the table automatically on the product page) or *Block* (you place a **Flicky Volume Discount** block exactly where you want it in the theme editor).

### 3. Add your discount tiers

In the **Discount tiers** card, add one row per quantity break:

* **Minimum quantity** (required, at least 1) and an optional **maximum** for the tier. Leave the maximum empty on your top tier to mean "and above".
* **Discount type** — percentage off, fixed amount off, or fixed price per item.
* **Discount value** — the percentage, amount, or per-unit price for that tier.
* **Label** (optional) — a short badge shown on the tier, e.g. *Best value*.

Add as many tiers as you need with **Add tier**, and drag to reorder them.

> **Tiers can't overlap.** Each quantity range must be distinct — *5–9* and *10+* is fine, but *5–10* and *10+* overlap and will be flagged. Gaps are allowed; two tiers can't share the same value for the same discount type.

### 4. Choose what it applies to

On the **Applies to** card, target which products qualify for the discount. Pick one of:

* **All products** — the discount applies to your whole catalog.
* **Specific products, collections, or tags** — narrow it down. When you choose this, more options appear (see below).

![Applies to — specific products, collections, or tags](/files/ez7JhvnQZuJSf9sje8wj)

When you select **Specific products, collections, or tags**, you get:

* **Match logic** — *Any (OR)* applies the discount when at least one group matches; *All (AND)* requires every group you fill in to match.
* **Include** — turn on **Products**, **Collections**, and/or **Tags** and pick the ones to target. For products you can choose whole products or drill down to individual variants.
* **Exclude** — optionally carve out exceptions (for example, *all of a collection except a few products*).

> **Tip:** Include and Exclude work together — target a broad collection in **Include**, then list the few items to leave out in **Exclude**.

### 5. Choose who's eligible

On the **Customer eligibility** card, decide which shoppers get the discount:

| Eligibility             | Who qualifies                                          |
| ----------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ |
| **All customers** | Everyone, logged in or not. |
| **Logged-in customers** | Any signed-in customer account.                        |
| **Not logged in** | Only guests (signed-out shoppers). |
| **Specific customers**  | A hand-picked list of customer accounts.               |
| **Customer tags**       | Customers carrying tags you choose (e.g. `wholesale`). |
| **Customer segments** | Members of a Shopify customer segment. |
| **Markets**             | Shoppers in specific markets/regions.                  |
| **Companies (B2B)**     | Specific B2B companies and locations.                  |

### 6. Set minimum requirements and combinations

* **Minimum requirements** — an optional minimum spend, plus usage limits (per customer and total).
* **Combinations** — whether this discount can stack with other discounts (see [Combinations](#combinations-stacking) below).

### 7. Style the on‑page table (optional)

Switch to the **Design** tab to customize the discount table shown on the storefront. Start from one of **16 ready-made colour presets** (Default, Indigo, Sunset, Ocean, Midnight, Forest, Lavender, Rose, Amber, Sky, Emerald, Aurora, Crimson, Gold, Blush, Coral), then fine-tune:

* **Title and subtitle** text and colours (solid or gradient).
* **Background, border** (colour, width, radius), and **row** colours, including the highlighted active row.
* **Alignment** (left-to-right or right-to-left).

A live preview updates as you edit.

### 8. Save

When you make changes, a **Save bar** appears at the top of the screen. Click **Save** to publish, or **Discard** to undo.

## Scheduling

Set an optional **start** and **end** date/time on the Basic information card. The list shows a computed status so you always know where a discount stands:

* **Active** — live right now.
* **Scheduled** — active but its start date is in the future.
* **Expired** — active but its end date has passed.
* **Inactive** — turned off (a draft).

The on-page table appears and disappears automatically as the schedule window opens and closes.

## Combinations (stacking)

By default, discounts don't combine. Open the **Combinations** card to allow this discount to stack with:

* **Product discounts** (including other Flicky discounts and pricing rules),
* **Order discounts**, and/or
* **Shipping discounts**.

For two discounts to stack, **both** must allow the combination.

## On the storefront

When the app embed is enabled and a discount is active, the tier table renders on matching product pages. Buyers shop as normal:

* They see the savings table and can click a tier row to jump the quantity selector to that tier.
* They add to cart with your theme's **own** Add to cart button — Flicky doesn't replace it.
* The discount is applied by Shopify at **checkout**, so the savings are guaranteed even if a buyer changes quantities.

## Key fields explained

| Field                          | What it controls                                                                                |
| ------------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Method** | *Automatic* applies with no action from the buyer; *Discount code* requires a code at checkout. |
| **Minimum / Maximum quantity** | The quantity range a tier applies to. Leave the maximum empty on the top tier for "and above". |
| **Discount type / value** | Percentage off, fixed amount off, or fixed price per item — and its value. |
| **Label** | An optional badge shown on the tier (e.g. *Best value*). |
| **Applies to** | Limits the discount to chosen products, collections, variants, or tags. |
| **Customer eligibility** | Restricts the discount to specific customers, tags, segments, markets, or companies. |
| **Combinations** | Whether this discount can be combined with product, order, or shipping discounts. |
| **Display position** | *Auto* (Flicky places the table) or *Block* (you place it in the theme editor). |

## Tips & common setups

* **Simple wholesale break:** one tier at *6+ = 10% off*, applied to a "Wholesale" collection, eligible only to a `wholesale` customer tag.
* **Escalating tiers:** *10+ = 5%*, *25+ = 10%*, *50+ = 15%* on all products for logged‑in customers.
* **Case pricing:** *12+ = $8.00 each* using **fixed price per item**, so a full case always lands at a clean per-unit price.
* **Clearance push:** *5+ = $3 off per unit* with an end date set, using **fixed amount off** for a time-boxed promotion.

## Troubleshooting

**My discount isn't applying at checkout.** Check that the discount is **Active**, today is within its schedule, the cart meets the tier's minimum quantity, and the customer/products match your eligibility and "Applies to" settings.

**Two discounts aren't stacking.** By default discounts don't combine. Open the **Combinations** card and allow the discount types you want to stack — and confirm the other discount also allows combining.

**The discount table doesn't show on the product page.** Make sure the storefront app embed is enabled (see [Getting started](/flicky-docs/user-guide/getting-started.md)) and that the product is covered by the discount's **Applies to** settings. If you set the display position to *Block*, confirm you added the **Flicky Volume Discount** block in the theme editor.

**My new tier shows a "range overlaps" error.** Two tiers cover the same quantity. Adjust the minimum/maximum so each range is distinct — gaps are fine, overlaps aren't.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://flicky.gitbook.io/flicky-docs/user-guide/volume-discounts.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
